Behind the Masc: Defining Masculinity with Carlos Andres Gomez

An intimate evening with spoken word artist Carlos Andrés Gómez as he comes to Ryerson for a special intimate performance that looks at what it means to be a ‘good man’ in a world where ‘masculinity’ is confined by the narrowest of definitions. It will also be an exploration of the powerful and beautiful things that can define manhood “…giving men the permission to be the best versions of what they can be”.

When we raise our men ( especially in racialized communities) to be hard and tough, and the only emotion we encourage them to show is anger and agression ( ‘man up’, ‘toughen up’, ‘boys don’t cry’ etc) how does that translate when a young man grows up and enters relationships and romantic relationships?
Starting the main show with a powerful spoken word piece will be V Tran from V-Day at Ryerson and Come Unity and Neree Smith from Urban Hip Hop Union

Special Guest Boonaa Mohammed will open for Carlos!
